Hello everyone! My name is Connor Steffen, and I am a sophomore here at Kent State University. I am majoring in journalism and minoring in both political science and marketing. I was born and raised in Brunswick, Ohio, but reside in Kent. A few things about me: I’m passionate about news & politics. I also enjoy food (sometimes too much), traveling, and a good horror film.
Outside of academics, I spend most of my time working at Kent State’s student-lead TV news station TV2. In my two years there, I have been afforded some really cool opportunities– the best of which I would say was getting to interview a presidential candidate. I too am involved in Greek life on campus. I have been a brother of the Delta Chi fraternity at Kent since coming to college, and have met some of my best friends because of it.
To be quite honest, my career goals are quite ambitious. One day I hope to graduate Kent State and move on to a successful career in broadcast journalism. I would love to be a reporter– informing viewers on local and national news stories. A dream of mine would be to eventually work my way up into a high news market (the higher the news market, the higher the outreach/ viewership the station has). It would be amazing to end up back in my home state of Ohio working for Cleveland, which is in the top 10% for biggest news markets throughout the nation. Furthermore, the ultimate goal would be to end up with a job in New York or better yet, at a national news stations such as CNN, NBC or ABC. But enough about me.
I would love to share something with you, whoever you may be…
“The truth is, there’s no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges. It’s best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyways.” – Richard Carlson
This is a quote I came across a few weeks ago on social media, and it really stuck with me. This quote personifies how I try to live my life. I think it’s a good rule of thumb for everyone. Life is not considerate, nor does it wait on anyone. You can only do so much to prepare for what the world may give you, so why not just be happy?
This blog’s foundation is rooted in a philosophy– a mindset to life. The same philosophy and mindset I choose to live my life by. I want to emphasize the little things in life, highlight showing gratitude day-to-day for what you have, be candid about rolling with the punches and never succumbing to life’s downfalls. I am passionate about life! I am passionate about happiness and living unapologetically– just do what makes you happy.
This blog’s purpose is to highlight how to genuinely enjoy both the ups and downs of living, while also inspiring people to follow in suit.
I will attempt to do so by sharing with you all past experiences that helped me grow into who I am, as well as new experiences that I have yet to face.
Advice for Living Unapologetically…
Do what makes you happy! No matter what anyone has to say about it. It’s YOUR life, no one else’s.
To truly know who you are, don’t look at your abilities or skill set. Look at the decisions you make.
Living unapologetically means living happily, no matter who or what tries to affect it.
